In November 2023, flash floods devastated the  Dominican Republic, leaving thousands displaced from their homes and over a million without access to clean drinking water.

 

Floods like these have dramatically increased in frequency and intensity on the island of Hispaniola and on many other small island developing states (SIDS). Although they proportionally contribute very few green house gas (GHG) emissions, SIDS are among the countries with the highest risk to suffer the health impacts of severe climatic events caused by climate change.

"Nowhere to go" displays both the destruction of torrential flooding in the neighborhoods north of Santo Domingo​ as well as the resilience of these communities in the face of these threats. However as climatic events worsen, many of these families are left with nowhere to go.
